Think about the answers they want to see
First, look at the position and decide what the hiring manager would be happy to see when you answer any interview questions. It’s important never to lie, but you can dig deeper and find similar experiences that might make you a great candidate.
Think about the reference:
- Relevant experience you’ve had in past jobs
- Any skills or certifications you have related to the tasks you’ll be performing
- Adjectives that describe the ideal employee for the position
When hiring managers post a position, they probably already know the type of people they want to hire. You must prove to them that you fit what they are looking for. You don’t always have experience in a particular role to get it. If you can show why you have the potential to fill that role, you might get the chance.
Describe why you’re different
If you find a job opening online or on an app, chances are there will be many applicants with experience and skills comparable to yours. To stand out, you want to be able to talk about why you are qualified and what you offer that the next candidate can’t do. This is your chance to highlight what makes you unique when answering interview questions.
Think about the reference:
- Your work ethic and personality and how they are reflected in your work
- A unique skill that will set you apart on the team
- When your personality or innovation has helped your team achieve a goal
You can’t control how many others apply or what they put on their applications, but you can seize your opportunity to get the hiring manager’s attention.
Emphasize why you’re a good fit
Here are examples of answers that show why you are qualified and should be selected for the job. The first part of your answer should show why you are a good fit for the team.
